Attend and learn all about running a small city Public Safety Department from Auburn’s Public Safety Director.  Director Ruffcorn started with the Auburn Police Department on December 22, 2008.  He was sworn in as the Auburn Chief of Police on June 30, 2011 and appointed as the Public Safety Director on July 27, 2015.  Prior to that, he worked for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for almost 23 years.

John started his career in 1986, at the age of 19 in the evidence room and worked his way up to the rank of lieutenant.  He held positions in corrections, training, patrol, street level teams, information technology and was the 40th management fellow for the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training in their 50-year history.  The research that John conducted examined the difficulties that the law enforcement profession experiences in the area of reading and writing.

John has obtained his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Business Administration and is a graduate of the “Sherman Block” POST Supervisory Leadership Institute and the FBI National Academy.  John is married to his wife Angel who is a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
