Hello, Library Advisory Board Members and Friends!
As we continue to evaluate how to best provide in-person library service, I wanted to reach out to all of you to share our next steps for Placer. Now that we have Curbside & Returns in Auburn and Curbside/Walk-Up & Returns in our Tahoe Libraries, we are excited to bring our South Placer Team into the fold.
The Granite Bay and Rocklin Libraries are now accepting returns anytime between 9AM-4PM Monday-Friday. Accepting returns during business hours means materials can be safely quarantined for 96 hours before being handled by staff.
The following Monday, August 10th, the Granite Bay Library will offer Walk-Through Service from 9AM-12PM on Mondays and Tuesdays. What does “Walk-Through” mean? Think of it like take-out from your favorite restaurant: you place your order online, pick it up at the designated time that it will be ready, and you’re on your way out the door. Granite Bay will pilot a similar service delivery, where customers can use self-service to check out available holds or get limited check out or reference assistance from library staff – think overriding blocks or help with self-service. No browsing in the stacks, no internet computer use, no lingering; customers will not be able to pay fines or check out items that aren’t their currently available holds. Temporary fencing from the entryway will lead customers to the library marketplace and out the community room door – contactless and quick! While a walk-through model doesn’t lend itself well to all of our varied facilities, its successes will go a long way to informing us about next steps for in-person service in our Tahoe and Mid-Placer regions.
Starting Wednesday, August 12th, the Rocklin Library will offer Walk-Up Service from 1PM-4PM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Library staff will be tabled at the entrance ready to check out customers’ available holds to them when they walk up with their library cards. Walk-Up Service allows us to provide library access to Rocklin Library users while still allowing space for the use of our community room by HHS for COVID-19 testing.
